Prevention

To prevent hypoglycaemia the following strategies can be adopted,

  • Regular blood glucose monitoring.

Know Diabetic Retinopathy

It is a common vision-threatening complication which causes damage to the retina. In patients who have had uncontrolled diabetes for a period of time are at the risk of developing retinopathy.

Research confirms that about 70% of patients who have had diabetes for 15 years will have some damage to their eyes. But however there are methods to detect high-risk retinal lesions and blindness due to diabetes.

Diagnosis and Tests for Diabetic Retinopathy:

Successful implementation of a screening programme for retinopathy has become possible due to combined continuous effort of dialectologists and ophthalmologists. The main problem is that patients will not have any visual symptoms until the central seeing area of the retina (macula) is affected. This calls for the retinal examination once a year.
